Order Description

The critical analysis paper asks student to engage with a public memory(great calamities, natural disasters, and other tragic events, the passing of specific legislation, momentous occasions for celebration, economic occurrences-positive or negative, etc) in order to produce a deconstruction reading of the memory and its legacy in cultural, personal, and societal contexts as a text with specific focus on the intersection of race and ethnicity, class, and gender and sexuality. Student will anchor themselves in context marked by histories of power, privilege, and violence in order to produce a clear and critical analysis of the material ramifications of the public memory, and its legacy affecting real people both domestically and aboard. Papers will engage with three or more readings, employ proper citations, and conform to stylistic conventions.
